There is a Dino in all of us

Psychologists talk about a condition known as narcissism. I understand it could have varying degrees of effect on people but pathological narcissists are said to be in love with an idealised self-image, which they project in order to avoid feeling and being perceived for their real, sometimes internally wounded self.
Narcissists are usually identified as haughty, self-centred, manipulative, and demanding. They also generally dwell on grandiose fantasies about their own successes, beauty or intelligence in addition to living with an obsessive sense of entitlement.
Experts say that in sustaining the attempt to pull one over people, narcissists are willing and able to tell lies and exaggerate to no end. All in a bid to gain the respect of people and remain on that high horse which they have set for themselves.
So, it is not out of place for such people to claim to have attained degrees that they have not attempted, journeys they never embarked on and possessions they never owned. And when they have indeed attained these milestones, they flaunt their accomplishments without consideration for the feelings of others!
Thoughts about this have nagged since allegations began making the rounds about Senator Dino Melaye’s certificates. While I had indications that the senator indeed graduated from the Ahmadu Bello University pretty early into the controversy, I found Melaye’s boast about being on his seventh degree consistent with tendencies to seek unnecessary attention and feel superior to others. Then, consider the unsolicited display of flashy automobiles and houses and Tuesday’s infantile adornment of an academic gown to the National Assembly!
But I then wonder whether Melaye is different from a lot of other Nigerians in any substantial detail. Here is a country where a vast number of the people are drunk on the pursuit of self and selfish interests. Good enough, psychology attests to the fact that there is a measure of the narcissistic in virtually every human being. In other words, as our world gets increasingly individualistic and goal driven, levels of narcissism, ranging from mild to severe are becoming more widespread.  It is doubtful that any Nigerian would want to dispute this given that we see so much vainglory and covetousness around; it is sickening!
In the less than two decades of return to democracy for instance, four instances of false certificate claims have reverberated nationally. The first scandal was blown open by The News magazine in 1999. It involved a young man with the name Salisu Buhari, who had just been elected Speaker of the House of Representatives. The News reported that Buhari did not attend the University of Toronto as he had claimed and that he falsified his age. After a series of denials and the magazine’s insistence on its scoop, Buhari admitted that he indeed forged documents and perjured himself.
Not long after, Tell magazine went to town with the alleged fraudulent educational claims by the then Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. In some sense, the claims against Tinubu were a tad more grievous than Buhari’s. He was alleged to have lied about information regarding his primary, secondary and tertiary education.
There was also the accusation that a former Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, might have lied about her qualifications. According to the report, officials of St. Paul’s College Lawrenceville, Virginia, United States, where Oduah claimed to have gained a Master’s in Business Administration, told an online news platform that no such programme ever existed in the institution. The report further insinuated that the woman might not even have obtained her first degree from the institution.
After we “ooed” and “aaed” for a couple of weeks, these allegations died natural deaths with each of those alleged to have infracted moving on with their lives. In fact, the only one of these allegations that the nation had the tenacity to resolve was the case of self-confessed Buhari, who later got a “go and sin no more” presidential pardon, and  an appointment  on the Governing Council of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka to boot.
Tinubu has gone on to be one of the heroes of Nigeria’s democratic growth and the seeming poster boy for what is the most progressive of our politics.  Of course, queries about the school certificate of President Muhammadu Buhari have met their untimely death  given the inability of the people to agree on the morality behind giving Nigerians closure by proving the availability or otherwise of the certificate. But that is just by the way. Only God knows the number of our compatriots in and out of high office who walk the corridors of power and corporate offices armed with bogus educational achievements.
Why the theory of the possible prevalence of the Narcissistic Personality Disorder is appealing, especially amongst seekers of public office in Nigeria is the fact that no one, including the President, needs more than a secondary school certificate, which they do not even need to pass to attain to any office. This is according to Section 131 (d) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). So why do people lie about higher certificates which they did not acquire when the same is not a prerequisite?
This says a lot about our values as a people. In this same world in which three of the most influential people in the last century voluntarily dropped out of universities, Nigerians are cooking up stories about degrees that they neither attempted nor got.
For most of the past decade, the founder of Microsoft and one of the most benevolent givers to Nigeria, Bill Gates, has remained on top of the list of the wealthiest people in the world. Strikingly, Gates voluntarily dropped out of Harvard University!
Steve Jobs,  late founder of Apple, was quoted by his biographer, Walter Isaacson, as saying in an address at Stanford that: “I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life and no idea how college was going to help me figure it out. And here I was spending all of the money my parents had saved their entire life. So I decided to drop out and trust that it would all work out okay.” Even in death, he remains one of the most talked about personalities from the United States of America.
And then the much younger Mark Zuckerberg dropped out of Harvard to devote his time to his startup social networking site, facebook.com, in 2005. Ten years later, the company was worth $12.5bn with 1.5 billion active users monthly! Yet, Nigerians are falling over each other to acquire certificates which literarily have no meaning to their lives.
A corollary to the diminished value of our paper qualification is the premium that we suddenly began to place on the class of degrees that people earn. Companies, even those without any iota of academic objective started to insist on employing candidates with first class or a minimum of second class upper degrees.
To beat them at their game, some dumb blonde, whose only aptitude is a pretty face, would succumb to the devices of a randy lecturer, settle herself and curiously come up at the top of her class. Not to be left in the cold, the young man who is not so endowed would bring out some money (usually nothing enough to prosper anyone), and buy any class of degree that he wants ready for sucker companies that value certificate over the quality of the personality that they intend to employ. No wonder so many companies end up employing incompetent impostors who cannot help themselves when confronted with the reality of the task at hand.
This is the tragedy of a nation without class. A nation which stifles the ability of its people to attain their best potential would most definitely breed manipulators, some of who will falsify things just to survive or for an ego trip, a desire to lord it over others.
The only thing that is worse than our vain disposition is our enthusiastic dishonesty, the inability to own up to our malady and redress.  The way it is in Nigeria now, we are all holier than the Pope until we are caught in the same malfeasance for which we condemn others. Reminds me of something a musician once said to the effect that: “we all steal, but it is the thief that is caught red-handed that we join the mob to lynch” But until Nigerians sit down as a people and reassess our values, those wrong-headed values that drive the leader and the led in Nigeria will continue to clog our progress.

BREAKING: Senators suspend confirmation of 27 REC nominees

Members of the Senate have called for the suspension of the confirmation of the 27 Nigerians as Resident Electoral Commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The then Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, had sought legislative approval for the nominations.

The lawmakers, while speaking on the report by the Senate Committee on INEC at the plenary on Tuesday, pointed out that the Legislature should not approve more nominations by the Executive.
This was due to the failure by the Presidency to remove the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, after his nomination had been rejected by the senate.
The nominees are Prof. Godswill Obioma (Abia), Ibrahim Abdullahi (Adamawa), James Apam (Benue), Nwachukwu Orji (Ebonyi), Iloh Valentine (Enugu), Asmau Maikudi (Katsina), Mahmuda Isa (Kebbi), Prof. Samuel Egwu (Kogi), Prof. Mustapha Zubairu (Niger), Agboke Mutiu (Ogun), Abdul-Ganiyu Olayinka (Oyo) and Prof. Riskuwa Shehu (Sokoto).
Others are Ahmad Mahmud (Zamfara), Nentewa Yilwatda (Plateau), Umar Ibrahim (Taraba), Emeka Ononamadu (Imo), Obo Effanga (Cross River), Prof. Francis Ezeonu (Anambra) and Briyia Frankland (Bayelsa).
They also include Ahmad Makama (Bauchi), Mike Igini (Delta), Hussaini Pai (FCT), Sadiq Musa (Kaduna), Jibrin Zarewa (Kano), Rufus Akeju (Lagos), Sam Olumekun (Ondo) and Kasim Geidam (Yobe).

CONFIRMED: Super Eagles Vs Burkina Friendly Cancelled Over Visa Hitches

The Nigeria Football Federation have confirmed that the Super Eagles’ second friendly against Burkina Faso in London on Monday has been called off after seven players in the Burkinabe contingent failed to secure entry visas into the United Kingdom.
The other players are able to enter the UK.

Chairman of the NFF Technical and Development Committee Chris Green told thenff.com in London: “We regret to announce that the second friendly match we had scheduled for the Super Eagles as part of preparations for the remaining matches of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying series and the beginning of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualification race would no longer take place on Monday, 27th March 2017.

“The match in question is called off due to no fault of either the organisers or the Nigeria Football Federation. We will announce further plans for the Super Eagles’ preparation for these two important qualifying campaigns in due course.”

The NFF explained in a press release that there is no British Embassy in Ouagadougou, and officials of the Federation Burkinabe de Football had been shuttling between Accra and Ouagadougou for visa processing. FBF sources said the Embassy in Accra told them last week to proceed to Morocco (where the Etalons played the Atlas Lions on Friday) and that the visas would be issued there.

However, the applications were still pending at the British Embassy in Morocco as at close of work on Friday, the last working day before match day in London.

The Burkinabe Football Federation on Friday by 7pm UK time telephoned the match organiser to say some of their players and officials were unable to secure entry visas into the United Kingdom and therefore would not be able to honour the match, the NFF further explained.

NFF President and CAF Executive Committee member, Amaju Pinnick, was unhappy with the development but stated that the objectives of satisfying the technical team’s desire of squaring up against tough, physical African opposition and fostering team bonding and organisation were achieved.

“The Technical Adviser (Gernot Rohr) wanted to play very physical African teams, as part of the preparations for the World Cup qualifying matches against Cameroon, and we duly fulfilled that with the arrangements we made for Senegal and Burkina Faso,” Pinnick said.

“Unfortunately, some of the Burkinabe players could not secure entry visas into the UK. It is nobody’s fault. Our joy is that we were able to play Senegal and got a fair result with a depleted squad, and also the objectives of team bonding, team building, team discipline and further imparting the Technical Adviser’s philosophy to the group have been well served.

“The Technical Adviser has also been able to look at a few more options, and our strength-in-depth is looking very good.”

Graduate steals customer’s transfer slip, forges signature, attempts withdrawing N110, 000

Luck ran out of a man believed to be in his 30s on Monday as he attempted to withdraw N110, 000 (One Hundred and ten thousand naira) from another customer’s account after stealing his transfer slip, then forging the victim’s signature on a bank withdrawals slip right there in the bank before proceeding to carry out the fraud. However, he was arrested by the Bank’s security personnel who handed him over to the Police when his face could not match that of his victim’s.
The suspect who gave his name as Lukeman Ibrahim said he is from Bauchi state and a graduate of Pure Mathematics from the University of Maiduguri. The victim, Mr. Theophilus Agada who spoke with Vanguard said he had gone to GT bank, Garki branch, Abuja to deposit some money when the fraud was attempted on his account.
He said, unknown to him, the suspect who was wearing a ring believed to be fetish perhaps trailed him to the bank, stole his deposit slip after he had deposited the money and gone and then attempted to withdraw the said sum before he was caught. He said it was the bank who called his attention to the attempted fraud. According to him, ” I was already out of the bank premises when they called me and said someone wanted to make a withdrawal of N110, 000 from my account. They said they had to call me because the suspect’s face did not match mine.” Continuing, Mr. Agada said, “on getting to my bank, i saw that the suspect forged exactly my signature and my full name. Everything was perfect except his face which gave him away.” Mr. Agada said he wants everybody going to transact in the banks to always be wary of the person next to them as such a person could be a fraudster. “This is the second time the suspect is trying to defraud people at the bank. Last week, he attempted defrauding another person at the Area 3 branch of GT Bank but was arrested and later bailed only for him to repeat the same crime at Area 11 today. I want everybody to learn from this and know that while at the bank, they should be very alert as someone standing next could be a thief claiming to equally be a bank customer.”
The suspect was taken to Garki police station where he was remanded. He said at the police station that the suspect who is visibly under the influence of some drugs pleaded that he went into the fraud business because he was hungry. The ring believed to be fetish was however taken from him by the police personnel. Mr. Agada also revealed that both the state and the bank are pressing charges on the suspect as he would be charged to court.

The Sexually Bold And Confident Woman

To be a sexually bold and confident woman is a choice you make. You won’t be genuinely in it if it is your spouse that is asking you to be. Knowing about your sexuality, helps you to have a better erotic life; but if you choose not to, do not allow someone talk you into it because they want it for you. One needs to have a realistic talk with oneself; about whether one is ready to be a bold, sensual woman. This type of woman can be very creative, exciting, enjoys making the initial move;   sometimes terrifying and intimidating. So it can be said that, she not only enjoys her sexuality, but actively pursues erotic and sensual pleasures. She does not feel dependent on her man for the expression of her sexuality simply because she is confident of their relationship and also having the desire to understand sex skills, thus she goes out to seek information in order to give herself more self-esteem.
If you must know, women who think about sex are curious about sex; expressing themselves by the clothes they wear,  rejecting traditional shaming leverages used by society to tame women’s sexual initiatives, giving the impression that such behaviour are the exclusive preserve of men and that sex is only for procreation.
The truth be said, being sexually bold and confident is not easy. You may be smart at your job, but it is a different ball game when it has to do with eroticism. For fear of rejection, many women become nervous and hold back in expressing their feelings and desires. The way out of this, is to look for what works for you and give it an extra push. For a woman to take the leap from timid, tamed, homely girl to a sex goddess is not easy. Tweaking a few things here and there in and out of bed  is necessary.
It is very okay for a lady to have desires for love making, and to know it is okay to initiate sex. Her desires are equally as important as that of her spouse. She can take the first step by saying to her partner, ‘l feel horny tonight and want to feel good’.
The sexually bold woman is aware of what she likes and eager to share it with her man. She is creative when it comes to foreplay and the different sex positions to the point of having a conversation about it with her man.
A bold and confident sensual lady, takes delight in admiring her body, knowing very well she does not have a great body to enjoy erotic appeal but her bold sexuality make her accept her body as it is. She feels sexy about it during love making and enjoys dressing up to boost her ego as she is motivated to pamper and take good care of her body. Her not looking like a supermodel does not dull her libido because she values and knows the importance of a good eroticism. Even when not in the mood, she goes out of her way to put herself in that sexy frame of mind; she plans ahead what she will do while in the act, and makes it a priority.
She can say no when she feels what he is asking for is demeaning or dangerous because she knows that her sexuality is her personal gift that needs to be protected to keep herself emotionally healthy; though not afraid to try new things that could be fun. Also, she knows when to draw the line because the beauty of the sexual relationship does not rest mainly with her, but on both parties; that is the way they treat each other; maintain boundaries for positive feelings and emotions. All these good sexual experiences are the resultant effect of her being very much in control, relaxed, not being self-conscious, not being uptight, not wanting to score points and not being obsessed with rejection. She is opened up to a life of ‘success upon successes’ of hot sexual experiences.
On a final note sexual boldness and confidence is not about skill, it is about a mindset that knows that God made sex to be pleasurable for couples who are aware that it is good, have positive view about it, and are determined to take the love making experience to a great level if not there yet. It is what can be cultivated by learning more about eroticism and focusing on God’s intent towards erotic appeal. Look at it as a life time journey that does not blow sex out of perspective.

THIS 2 HOTTEST SEX POSITIONS WILL MAKE YOU LAST 25 MIN IN BED EVERY NIGHT – TRY IT TONIGHT

I once asked myself; what was going through the mind of God, when He invented sex? Why did God put this strong drive in man and woman. Why is it difficult to do without sex? Why do my dick get so hard when when I squeeze my wife’s breast? I Even Asked my Self Why Do sex even exist apart from reproduction? The only answer I was able to get within me was that, God invented sex for the sole purpose of enjoyment that is why men and women cant do without sex and the associated pleasure. May I say however, that sex is sweet. In fact, very sweet. Even though many people avoid talking about it, especially in religious circles, the truth is we all feel it. Even the thought of it alone, let alone the main act, is like honey to the soul. Though relationships are not all about sex, but wait a minute, it is vital to the growth of your relationship. Remember that moment when your woman will grab your dick and hold it so strong, She will twist and bend it up and down.. really sweet abi? Yes Sex Is indeed very Sweet. It breaks my heart that when it comes to sexual satisfaction, women are on the loosing side. unfortunately 90% of women have never ever Experienced Orgasm. No thanks to their guys who in most cases can satisfy their Wife or bring them to orgasm. Orgasm is a force that unifies the woman and the man forever even after sex. Lack of it have destroyed homes, and made many people to return to their ex, who can really give it to them. As a result of men’s inability to satisfy their women in bed, Many women have been forced to look for sexual satisfaction outside of their matrimonial homes, Many women has found sex satisfaction in the hand of their gate man and ever their neighbors… You are not a real man if you have never made a woman reach orgasm, she can never be satisfied if you don’t last long in bed.

Mistake #2 Not Satisfying Her. It is easy to lose all your self-confidence when you can never last longer than a few short minutes of sex. And any woman would look at you differently if you don’t have the ability to bring her to the pinnacle of sexual pleasure Nothing is more humiliating to a man than the failure to perform in bed. Women Love Good Sex! Not just any type of sex, but good sex – the type that makes them scream your name with pleasure as they get intense orgasms. The Only Guaranteed Way Of Giving them Good Sex is to Last At least 25Min During Sex. Many men In Nigeria still have this ugly dumb idea that women don’t like sex and that as men we somehow have to ‘win sex’from women or do something else (like buy gifts, go to the beach bla bla bla) before women will have sex with us. Being Able to satisfy a woman in bed and bring her to climax, is the ultimate dream of almost every Man, But most times. All Hope is not lost if you cant last long in bed. the mascum herbal pride is uniquely designed to light up your bedroom and spice it up. Well Being able to last long in bed will make you appear more attractive to women, it will make you better sexually and you will feel more powerful, masculine and attractive. Think about this. Ejaculating too quickly means women don’t fully enjoy sex with you. Other men out there are better than you, and it doesn’t have to be that way.

Are women really their own worst enemy?

The saying that women are their own worst enemies is no new revelation. Almost as old as time itself, women have been believed to have deep rooted rivalry amongst themselves. They say it is because every woman wants to be on top of her game and they are by nature territorial. From experience, they see men as good and dependable allies if properly courted. However, some women insist it is a strategic creation by men to divide the womenfolk. Hmm! What do you think? I spoke to some respondents and you will be reading some of their responses below. Please feel free to join us in this discourse via the contacts above. Happy reading! Sharon Even among sisters, this is so. While growing up, I discovered that we were always having trivial issues but it was not the same thing with the guys in the house. What always made me angry was the fact that my sister always wanted to be in control. Even though she was my elder sister, I needed her to see me as equal, not seeing me like just one little thing considering the age difference. From what my friends also told me about their sisters, I came to know that it is always the same everywhere. As one of my friends quoted “My friend is closer to me than my sister”. I have always wondered why sisters are so competitive and girls in general are like rivals, until I heard that females have “FISH BRAIN” (?) This helped me to resolve a lot of problems about why females behave the way they do. They have such little minds compared to males. I remembered little things my elder sister and I quarreled    about, whereas if it were the males, they would have just shoved them off. So many a times, I have had to force myself off funny thoughts like “who is better, who is the most intelligent, who is the most loved and so on, which made me feel bad about the way female are. But what kept me going was the fact that females have little brains and men should learn to tolerate them no matter how childish or unreasonable they may be. Silva This is a very good topic. I want to make my own contributions from a national point of view. Every time I look at our women in the papers, I mean, our so called women that have either been elected into public positions or have been appointed to positions by the men, I have not seen what they can point to that they have done, either better than the men, or differently in favour of the women of this country. If you have been following the history of the struggle for women empowerment everywhere across the continent, you will see that the Nigerian case is a peculiar one. 15-20 years ago in this country, you could count on your finger tips, the number of women in important decision making positions. All the women there today rose on the platform of those struggles    by serious and visionary activities of individuals and NGOs, both local and international, yet very few of them will acknowledge this when they get to this positions. As soon as they get there, they deny their womanhood and put on a sexless toga or worse still, become men. I have heard some of them make silly statements such as “I am not here because of women, I am here because of all Nigerians”, “It is not only women that voted for me, in fact, more men than women voted for me to come here”. Even when among their male colleagues, they feel that talking about women issues or supporting them will reduce their rating with the men. So, rather than promote and support things that will uplift the women of this country, they have joined the men in further doing damage to the future of our children, women and ultimately, the country. Look at the shabby treatment that the gender bill was given, yet there are women in that National Assembly. Look at what they did during the constitutional review. As a man I was not impressed, as a Nigerian, I am not impressed either.    It is unfortunate to discover that some of them have proven that they can even steal, misappropriate, mismanage public funds more than their male colleagues, despite the fact that women are known to protect, nurture and beautify things. One look at most of our women in leadership positions and you will see corruption written all over them. even at a glance. How do they want to improve the lot of other women when the first thing they want to do is show them that they have hit gold and are better than them? On the international scene, every year, you get to see one African woman doing one outstanding and innovative thing or the other to help or elevate her community. Some win awards for these little contributions, while some even get financial assistance for encouragement and improvement of these feats. How many of our women in top positions get nominated for anything they did to improve the lot of other women? Then, there are the First Ladies who parade themselves as having the interest of the women and children of this nation at heart through their phantom and shallow NGO activities. Since the introduction of the Office of the First Lady into our social psyche, how many of them have embarked on projects worth life time legacies that impact on the society, besides buying hair driers, motorcycle, grinding machines and portable generators? Are these the ways to develop and improve societies? If these NGOs are not scam machines, how many of them outlive the tenure of their initiators? I can count them on my finger tips. Mrs. Fayemi is one of them. Please let us call a spade by its name. When you take all of these with what havoc women wreak on each other on a personal level, then, you will know that truly, women, at least, in this part of the world, are their own worst enemies for now. Only God can save them. Princess I disagree totally with that notion. It is a ploy used against women by men to keep us divided so that they can continue to dominate us. Women are wiser now. I have an NGO and work mainly with indigent    girls and young women. We try to take them off the streets, rehabilitate them and even send them to school. Many have graduated through our effort. Are we not women helping other women. I think what we have is lack of education and exposure. For the women who act under the guise of culture and tradition to wreak havoc and make life difficult for other women, one cannot entirely blame them. It is the lifestyle they know and have practised and they do not know better. They have to be educated on the consequences of their actions. I cannot speak on private or personal relationships. That depends largely on the individuals involved. Simon  I entirely agree with this notion. If it were not so, people would not have come up with the idea. It is something that I see around me all the time, even at home with my nuclear family. While we were growing up, apart from the fact that parents tend to treat male and female children differently, the way my mother also treated my two female siblings was something out of the ordinary. Some of the things she would otherwise permit us the boys to do were not permitted for the females and this had nothing to do with gender. For instance, she would give us more money than she would give to them on the pretence that they ought to learn to be prudent being women. If it becomes very glaring that there is a preferential undertone, she would use the age difference. By the time we were all grown up, the girls had taken special likeness for our father, whom they preferred to tell all their secrets to, rather than our mother. The irony of it was that she did not totally have the devotion and attention she wanted from my older brother at the end of the day. That one’s wife took him away from her clutches all together. Being women, I would have thought that there should be no acrimony between them as such. Presently, I work with a first generation bank under the supervision of a woman. I have two other ladies in my unit under the same woman. I can’t begin to recount how shabbily they all treat each other. The woman always does things with scorn, making most of the ordinary things look very serious. She talks about them behind their backs just as they do same for her. Her nick name is cookie-monster after the popular Sesame street character, while she calls them “Asewo”. While they are all praying to see her back one day, the two ladies with us now are still the longest on record as her subordinates. Those who can’t stand her plead they would do almost anything for transfer. As for me, this is my third year with her and I have no problems absolutely. In fact, cookie-monster sometimes invites me to have nice meals with her. And just before your minds starts drifting, no indecent propositions have been made so far, and I doubt she is that sort of person. Most of the women I have come across have at one time or the other displayed this same tendencies. I will not call it hate, maybe disaffection is okay. Very few of them show true love to each other. I am always surprised at the amount of enmity that suddenly springs up between two hitherto best of friends whenever the so-called friendship goes wrong. Rather than move on and just keep a cordial relationship, they may either ignore each other as if they were never once acquainted, or pull each other down at every opportunity. Some even go to a worse extent, such that you will wonder if truly they once shared anything good between them, or their relationship was based on falsehood all along. Some say that it is the way things have always been and will continue to be with women. Should that be the case, then, there is nothing anyone can do. Gladys I think it has to do with the situation women in this part have found themselves. The system is so bad that you have to struggle for everything you want. And who do you get it from, the men. So you see that in their personal and public life, it is a struggle to survive. And the woman’s major rival is the other woman. So, your fellow woman becomes the target to beat if you want to make it to the top. However, it is what they do on getting to the top that needs to be re-examined. Are you pulling younger women along as you climb? Are you using that position to correct the wrong done against women? Or are you one of those who believe others must pass through the ordeals you went through, if they also want to succeed? As for personal relationships, I doubt there is much anyone can do about that. What are the potential risks and complications of untreated high blood pressure? Complications of hypertension are often referred to as end-organ damage because damage to the organs is the end result of chronic (long duration) high blood pressure. Heart disease: Increased workload on the heart from pushing against the high blood pressure can cause enlargement of the heart muscle, heart failure, coronary artery disease, and cardiac arrhythmias. Kidney disease: High blood pressure damages the filtration system within the kidneys causing proteins to spill out into the urine. These proteins cause further damage to the kidneys and can lead to kidney failure. Hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis): Increased pressure through the arteries and arterioles causes damage to the inner walls of the blood vessels, resulting in hardened arteries. Increased risk of aneurysms: Increased pressure can also cause stretching or dilation of the blood vessels, which can result in aneurysms. Eye damage: The sensitive tissues within the eyes are prone to damage from high blood pressure. Hardship made me dump my baby in toilet, mother of six confesses in Bauchi

A mother of six from  Guru village in outskirt of Bauchi,  Bauchi State has confessed that she threw her one day old infant into the soakaway shortly after delivering her at home because of hardship. Juliana James, an indigene of Shendan  Local Government Area of Plateau State,  wept profusely as she spoke with journalists at the police Command headquarters in Bauchi, saying she loved her child. The housewife who lives with her husband James and her six children (five girls and a boy) in a one room apartment claimed that things were so rough for her family that she decided that the way out was to sacrifice the new born. “Things are hard. My husband has no job. He had an accident three months ago. He is still in the hospital  and the situation became worse for us. We don’t see food to eat. We were dying of starvation. I delivered at home and threw the baby into the toilet because I didn’t know how we are going to take care of it. I didn’t tell my husband, “ she narrated amidst sobs. Juliana who claimed that the accident rendered her husband impotent three months ago,  explained that when the cry of the baby in the soak away became too unbearable she changed her mind and , ran to her neighbours and told them everything. The baby girl was rescued alive and taken to the Abubakar Tafawa University Teaching Hospital where she is currently receiving medical attention. A source close to the woman claimed that Juliana seemed to be depressed due to hardship. “She was a hardworking mother and House wife who fried kwosai (bean-cake in the neighbourhood but for some time now during her pregnancy she had not been coming out. May be the recession took its toll on her,” the source who pleaded anonymity said. Juliana was subsequently arrested by the police and is currently being remanded at the police station. The Commissioner of police Zaki Ahmed  who paraded the suspect for child abandonment along with other suspects, said the case was being investigated while the rescued baby was handed to social welfare officials after she has been certified healthy. Why women hide money from their husbands!

One of the jokes that went round in the social media last week could pass off as humour at the expense of the womenfolk. It says “Gentlemen, if you have N5,000 in the house and your wife has N55,000, the total amount of money in that house is N5,000. Are we together?” Of course, the men are together on this. They believe the women will never disclose the actual amount of money they have to their husbands. But can we say women are also together on this issue? Interestingly, many women are in agreement with the men. The wife believes the husband is the head of the family and it is his responsibility to provide everything that will be needed in the house. After all when she married him, she dropped her maiden name and adopted his name while all their children bear his name, he should therefore be ready to shoulder all the burden. There may be few exceptions but most housewives don’t like their husbands to know how much money they have. Although, it is believed that about 50 per cent of all the spouses hide money from each other, women indeed, are accused of being the greatest culprits in this regard. In fact, one in every five Nigerian women is said to be guilty of keeping many secrets when it comes to the issue of money. While this has become a major factor undermining the progress of the home front, many have argued that some women today have their reasons for resenting wholesome financial contributions to family.

The question then is, what would make a wife conceal so much from her husband especially when it comes to financial contributions to family affairs? Take this: A woman has, for example, N100,000 and all the husband has is N50,000 and sorts out a N40,000 family responsibility. Then another responsibility of N10,000 arises. The woman would keep her money in tact and would want the husband to also fund the N10,000 responsibility and go empty handed. These things happen in our homes all the time. Why are women this way? Is it an act of wickedness, selfishness or greediness? According to those who spoke to Saturday Vanguard on the matter, some women feel reluctant to ask their husbands for money for all the things they want for themselves. They, therefore keep their money and use it for their own needs. To these, it is simply the man’s place to provide for the family. They hardly part with their money for any family matter that does not concern them. Other women also, are said to resent their husbands’ assumed right to decide how much they should be spending on anything. The reasons range from behavioral attitudes to social factors and even fears of the unknown. “Hiding money helps a woman get around some problems like supporting her parents and siblings financially,” according to Chuks Nwanne, a journalist. But for Femi Salawu, Media Communication Practitioner, a woman who hides her money from her husband shows that she has trust issues. “Although I don’t have evidence for it but I consider it to be common place that majority of women who hide their money from their husbands do so in retaliation to similar behaviour from their husbands, not necessarily because they are bad. Having said that, I don’t think it is a good attitude in a home. Trust is the foundation of peaceful home and how couples handle money will reveal their faith in each other. Patriarchy and religious mindset Speaking in the same vein, Tope Ajayi, PR practitioner, said, it is not right for a woman to hide her money from her husband. According to her,”many women do that. This is as a result of the thinking that a woman’s money belongs to her and the husband’s money belongs to everybody in a family. Patriarchy and conventional as well as religious injunctions say a man should provide for his household and if you are a Christian, the Bible says a man who can not provide for his household is worse than an infidel. With such mindset, a woman will think the husband has no business with her money. But I don’t think women should hide money from their husbands. Both husband and wife should be transparent and accountable in money matters. In the modern day that we are and with the economic situation of the world today, especially in Nigeria, the job of providing for the family can’t be a man’s job alone. I am a traditional man who believes a man must provide for his family at all times and I don’t expect a man to be asking his wife about her money. At the same time, a responsible woman should not hide money from her husband. Being open with your husband on issues of money does not mean the man will collect money from his wife. Some men will even add to such money, like I used to do for my wife. When a man has some challenges, the wife, if she has money, could bail out and support the husband,”Ajayi added. According to David, a businessman, “Although I don’t look into my wife’s account I know I don’t need to ask if the need arises, she would support without asking.” However, providing a voice for womenfolk, Olufunmi Lateef Adeyeye, wondered why any man would want to know about his wife’s money. She queried, “Is it your money? Your money is for the family while her money is hers alone except she decides to make it available to you when necessary and if she’s willing.” Some women however explained why they will never trust their husbands as to disclose their personal money. Men can’t be trusted A woman, 56 year-old Mrs Thompson, who lives in Ebute metta area of Lagos told Saturday Vanguard how she acquired some landed properties and built her houses without the knowledge of her husband. The businesswoman explained that the husband used to take advantage of her to extort her. She said, “I come from a wealthy family, my parents were business people and they engaged us in their businesses. I later started doing my own business. When I got married, my husband told me that he was also into business and that we should jointly raise money and invest it. I contributed 85 percent of the investment. When the business matured, he sidelined me and brought in another woman who he claimed had been helping him over the years even before he knew me. It was so painful to me, I was mad and was frustrated. Unfortunately for him, he never knew I was also running my personal business alongside. At that time, I had built some houses with my father’s name. When he knew about this, he was very mad. He had thought I invested all that I had in his business. Since the incident, I have learnt not to trust any man or help anyone or better still, not to disclose my asset to anyone except my parents. Another woman, Loveth, who lives in Jakande area of Lagos said, “my boyfriend connived with his friends and duped my sister and her husband and even my parents. He told us he was running some businesses and needed N1.2m to execute a project. He showed us all the documents of the business. One month after, he came and asked for another help. When he told me some of the challenges he was facing, I was touched and I took him to my sister who then introduced him to her husband and he was given N1.5m. Few weeks later, he told me of his plan to be importing goods and that I should give him N2m which I borrowed and gave it to him. I never knew he was lying, that he never had anything but was just a fraudster. When I told him I was pregnant, he took to his heels and never came back. I called his phone but he did not answer me. When I was delivered of the baby, I called his phone, yet there was no response and I was perplexed. Six months later, he showed up and said, he would take the baby on the condition that I would give him N3m or else, no deal. It was at that point I realised that he was a fraudster. Since then, I have decided not to help any man regardless of what the person is going through. A lady, Janet Usman related how she was determined to make her husband discharge his responsibilities in response to another woman who said she would not be a liability on any man. According to Janet, “experience and disappointment have taught me to treat man as they are. I have taken the decision that my husband must buy everything for me including my undies. If I want to make my hair, he has to pay for it no matter what happens, it is his responsibility. I have suffered in the hands of men, I have been molested severally and my mind is made up. Men cheated me, took advantage of my weakness, extorted money from me and this is my time to take my pound of flesh”, she said Man’s recklessness and carelessness A hairdresser, Mrs Isa who lives in Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos told Saturday Vanguard how she had become a breadwinner of the family and the sole financier of the family as her husband has abandoned his responsibilities. She said, “I am the one taking care of my children and also I pay their tuition fees. My husband no longer cares about the welfare of the children because I decided to support him financially. Last year, I spent more than five hundred thousand naira to take care of the home. He does not care about us because I have been supporting him. During the festive period, I bought Christmas clothes and shoes, he also asked me to pay for chicken he bought. He has transferred his responsibilities to me completely and I do not know why. Most times, I buy foodstuffs without his contribution and that has been going on for years now. I felt bad but there was nothing I could do about it. I only enjoyed him when we were newly married. Two years into the marriage, my husband changed to a different man. As much as I would want to support him financially, he hurts me because of his attitude”, she said. Asked if the husband does not have work, she said, “he is an Engineer and the work is lucrative. My husband prefers to take care of his girlfriends instead of taking care of the home. He even told me that I have an option whether to still be his wife or divorce him. Right now, I take care of my children and also make sure that he eats as well. He asks me for money at will and I do not have any choice than to give him the money”, she said. Also, a business woman, Mrs Igbayi told Saturday Vanguard how her husband had transferred his responsibilities to her. She said, “my husband has turned me to the breadwinner of the family. He does not take care of me and his children and only gives us 10,000 per month. He does not care about the upkeep of the children and I do not know what to do. Since the change in his attitude, I decided to make a living for myself and my children. I went in search of a job and got one at a Bakery in Ojuelegba as a Baker.” Emotional comfort and sense of security Women tend to keep money from their husbands for various reasons. For some, it’s a golden rule to always have some money hidden somewhere, in case the relationship does not work. This gives women a sense of security— something to fall back on. However, if a husband finds out about those secret funds, he may think she’s expecting the marriage to fail. This may bring about a sense of betrayal. The husband may feel that his wife could be hiding bigger secrets. But truly, some women keep money away just in case the marriage fails. There’s also the fear of death. Many widows have suffer in the hands of their in-laws. Women are stripped of all their rights and dispossessed of belongings of their husbands and are left with nothing when their husbands pass on. Some of them therefore keep tight their money for any eventuality. While some people believe that having a stash of money hidden away is a sign of a failing relationship or shows lack of trust, some women have a need or desire to have a secret stash of money tucked away for a rainy day or to serve as an emergency fund. It is not even a question of hiding money in many cases but just not wanting to spend it when the man is there. They keep their money and feel more sense of security when their men are doing all the spending. Some feel that the money is just their for them to spend. Many naturally don’t want spending their money when the man of the house is there. There are some who feel that the more their husbands have the more they can spend on their dates and therefore will never contribute to the upkeep of the house. Their husbands having extra money could increase their appetite for romance outside the matrimonial homes or indulgence in avoidable socials. And “curbing his excesses” may therefore help, they think. But some women complain that their husbands do not give them money to buy clothes, cosmetics, or to make their hair, so these women are likely to tuck away some money for these purposes. To check husband’s frivolity Nevertheless, some women are also naturally wicked. They have the mindset that the man must not go outside what they want. Therefore, she drains her husband financially to ensure that he doesn’t have money to do other things apart from what she wants in the house. These kind of women are not supportive, they believe that once the man has enough money to spare, he might probably want to start another family or spend frivolously on other women. Also, some women choose to spend their money on their own family (parents and siblings), instead of their immediate family (husband and children). They always justify this by saying the kids bear the man’s name, therefore the man (husband) should be the sole provider for the family. However, some experts also recommend that women should routinely divert small sums from paychecks, bonuses, reimbursement accounts, household allowances or even s pare change in order to build their own personal balance. Holding on to certain secrets can impact negatively on the trust and support system of the marriage institution. Money could be a primary concern in a marriage, it is therefore best to weigh the possible outcomes before withholding funds.

Alleged marriage scam: Court grants accused bail

Justice Joyce Abdulmaleek of Federal High Court, Ibadan, on Friday granted the bail application filed by one Semilore Egbedayo accused of defrauding three American women to the tune of $3,734. Abdulmaleek held that the offences were bailable and that Egbedayo, 26, had not failed to appear before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) whenever he was called to do so. “I hereby admit the defendant to bail in the sum of N1 million with two reliable sureties and one of the sureties shall deposit the original of his Certificate of Occupancy (CoO) with the Federal High Court, Ibadan. “One of the sureties must be a worker with the Oyo State Government and must deposit letter of his first and last promotion with the registry of the court,” the Judge ordered. She adjourned the case to April 11 for commencement of trial. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Egbedayo was arraigned on a three-count charge, bordering on obtaining money under false pretense and forgery. According to Mr Ben Ube, counsel to EFCC, the accused between 2015 and 2016 at various times collected a total sum of $3,734 from three American ladies under the pretense that he would marry them. “Egbedayo told them that the sum was for traditional preparation for the grand wedding ceremony that will still come. “He used his versatility with the internet to defraud Para Lee-Johnson, Doris Cabana and Trenda Clegg,” Ube explained. The prosecutor said that, if convicted, the accused was liable to 20 years in prison without any option of fine.

Mother burns daughter’s mouth with firewood

The Niger Child Rights Protection Agency is to charge a 30-year-old mother of three, Bilkisu Suleiman of Sabon Titi Area of Tunga, to court for burning her 9-year-old daughter’s mouth with firewood. The Director-General of the agency, Hajiya Mairam Kolo, said on Friday that the case was reported to the agency by the Headmaster of the victim’s school, Malam Musa Garba. Kolo said the victim’s teacher had reported the matter to the school authority after seeing the girl’s burnt mouth. She said that the accused was reported to have denied the victim from attending school and sending her to hawk on several occasions. Kolo said the accused would be charged under Section 26 of Child Right Law for neglect, ill treatment and abandonment, exposure to risk of burning. She said that Section 26 of the State Child Right Law attracts a fine of N5,000, or a term of two months’ imprisonment. She said the agency would continue to protect the rights of children and bring justice to the vulnerable. Suleiman told the agency that she burnt her daughter’s mouth because she had been stealing money in the house. She said the girl also stole money from a neighbours’ room, which led her to burn her mouth.

Brother-in-law’s brutality may crash woman’s 11-year-old marriage

A 35-year-old businesswoman, Mrs Kafilat Usman, on Friday urged an Igando Customary Court in a Lagos suburb to dissolve her 11-year-old marriage, citing constant battering by her brother-in-law. “My brother-in-law has turned me into a punching bag. He beats me at the slightest provocation, ” “There is nobody in the house to rescue me from his hands because only the two of us are living in the house my husband built,” she told the court. Kalifat said her husband, Sheu, for whom she had two children, had abandoned her. She said: “My husband abandoned me to his 27-year-old brother about two years ago and relocated to Abuja to marry another woman. “His brother has been dealing with me; there was a day he beat me to the point that I was hospitalised. “I asked my husband to either get an apartment for his brother or relocate me and my children to another house in Lagos. “Or better still, relocate myself and the children to Abuja, but he refused. “My brother-in-law has been bringing his gang to the house to smoke and drink. “In fact, I am no longer comfortable as they can harm me one day.” The husband has refused to appear in court after several summonses. Kalifat accused the husband of failing to take care of her and the children since he relocated to Abuja,. “I have been feeding them and paying their school fees,” said Kalifat, who pleaded with the court to terminate the marriage. The court’s President, Mr Adegboyega Omilola, ordered the court bailiff to serve the respondent another summon to able him to attend the next sitting of the court. Further hearing in the case has been fixed for April 25.

Suicide bombing: Police urge Borno residents to be vigilant

The Borno Police Command on Friday advised residents of the state to be more vigilant by reporting strange happenings around them to law enforcement agents nearest to them. The Commissioner of Police in the state,Mr Damian Chukwu, gave the advice while speaking in Maiduguri.

Chukwu was reacting to Friday’s multiple blasts in Maiduguri in which three suicide bombers died and three petrol trucks were destroyed. He said that the residents must collaborate with security agents by sharing vital information on suspicious movements around them. ” I want to appeal to the people to be vigilant and be wary of happenings and people around them. “People should report any strange objects or happenings to either the police or other law enforcement agents,” Chukwu said. The commissioner said this was necessary to prevent loss of lives and property associated with suicide attacks in the state. “One will expect that the terrorists will resort to this kind of thing because the military have driven them out of their Sambisa stronghold. “They are now using guerrilla warfare, which is their usual style,” he said. Chukwu said that the police were collaborating with other law enforcement agencies to ensure total peace in the nearest future. He expressed joy that no person was killed aside from the three suicide bombers in the Friday attack. “The incident happened close to Armani petrol station in the neighborhood of the NNPC depot on Damboa road Maiduguri. “About seven trucks loaded with petrol were parked in a vicinity. There was also a bus and a Volkswagen saloon car and a coaster,” he said. “Three suspected suicide bombers comprising an adult male and two teenage girls laced with explosives sneaked to the place and found their way into the clusters of the vehicles. “They detonated their explosives one after the other after attaching themselves each to a truck,” he said. He said that the three trucks exploded with the fuel inside, “and The bombers were roasted to death and the trucks destroyed. “The fortunate thing is that only the bombers died, no other person was lost,” Chukwu said. “We got there on time and with the help of the fire service we were able to evacuate the remaining vehicles and relocate them to a safe place on time,” the commissioner said.

She brings out knife threatening to stab me, man tells court

Lagos – Mrs Mutiatu Olaosebikan, 37, on Friday told an Igando Customary Court in Lagos that her husband, Sunday, usually discharged his sperm on the floor during sexual intercourse (withdrawal method). Mutiatu, a trader, whose husband sought for dissolution of their seven-year-old marriage, said that the petitioner did not want her to get pregnant again after having a child. “My husband is in the habit of disposing of his sperm on the floor during intercourse. “He does not want me to get pregnant; he no longer releases sperm into me when we have sex. “He started this withdrawal method five years ago; I only have one child who is six years old now. “My husband can go more than six rounds, but will never release the sperm into me, instead he pours it on the floor. “Whenever I queried him about the withdrawal method he uses, he failed to give me a satisfactory answer,’’ she said The respondent said that her estranged husband was an untamed chatterbox. “My husband is a talkative, he talks too much and he cannot keep the family secrets. He is in the habit of sharing our family issues with his relatives, friends and the public. “There was a day I was attacked spiritually; blood was gushing out of my eyes, nose and mouth. “When I was rushed to a prayer house, I was told that my husband caused the sickness because he talks too much about out affair to the public,’’ she said. The respondent also described her husband as tight-fisted. “My husband is very stingy; he does not give me money. I have been the one taking care of our baby from birth till now,’’ she said. The mother of one said that her husband had also turned her into a punching bag. “I have scars all over my body as proof of his abuse anytime we have misunderstanding, he would beat the hell out of me,’’ she said. She urged the court to grant petitioner’s request for the dissolution of the marriage. “I also want the marriage to be dissolved; I’m tired of the marriage,’’ she said. The Petitioner, Sunday, 42, had approached the court to end the marriage over alleged threat to life. Sunday, a businessman, said that Mutiatu always threatened to kill him. “My wife is after my life; she stabs me with dangerous weapons whenever we have misunderstanding. “She once stabbed me with a broken bottle on my head and I bled heavily which landed me in the hospital. “Whenever we have disagreement, she brings out knife threatening to stab me. “She is just aggressive and violent in nature; she may kill me one day if I continue with the marriage,’’ he said. Sunday said that he was not interested in her having another child from her due to his wife’s violent nature. “Due to her stubbornness and violent nature, I avoid getting her pregnant by using condom or withdrawal method. “ I don’t want any baby from her again,’’ he said. The petitioner begged the court to terminate the union on ground of lack of love. The president of the court, Mr Adegboyega Omilola, adjourned the case to April 25 for further hearing.
